“When I wrote the 1st line of the lyric to BEAUTIFUL SAVIOR… YOU have rescued me, completely set me free,” states Popin, “I initially wrote it with the mindset of God saving me, way before I knew what the year 2020 would entail… I found myself needing God to rescue me from a real dark, painful, hurtful, angry place in life and HE so did. HE completely healed my heart and set me free. This 1st line means more to me now than ever. I was infused with the pain of everything that has affected my personal world from the COVID-19 pandemic, to not being able to do what I love to do by traveling, touring & encouraging people through my music. All my dates & events canceled. My Dad fell & had a Traumatic Brain Injury. Initially they thought he broke his neck. After weeks of being in the ICU on a ventilator, then breathing on his own without a trach tube, his insurance company mandated that he be moved into a more intense rehab facility. And there, within days of arriving, that facikity had a COVID outbreak & I watched my Dad begin to deteriorate. He passed in July 2020. Nothing made sense. I started to point the finger and a dark cloud overwhelmed my vision and changed who I was and who I have always been. I became so angry and upset. I felt injustice. It may be a different story than others, but the same inner core raw feeling. My wife spoke right to my heart and said, This is not you. Let it go and ask God to heal your heart, rescue you & set you free. That moment was profound for me as I didn’t even think or know I needed help. Shoot, I thought it was everyone else or circumstances that I had been unwillingly thrust into without me even having a say. I personally needed to be rescued, healed and set free. Just like the first line I penned years ago.”

Released on Fred Jerkins’ Darkchild Gospel, “Beautiful Savior” is written by Popin, an ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Music Award recipient and co-produced along with super producer Ay’Ron Lewis.
